  • settembre 2014, Lisbon Challenge
  • ottobre 2014, Unicredit Fintech Accelerator
  • 23 novembre 2014 lancio dell’App definitiva su Android tramite Thunderclap

Last but not least, Mohamed, a soli 18 anni progetta e salda i suoi circuiti stampati.”

ENGLISH VERSION

Today we are with Giacomo Putignano, Wallet Saver’s CEO, to show up his start up born and raised in Italy.

“The ideal profile of a startupper is the one who sees an opportunity, not a problem, in the doubt…” these are the words of the young 25 year-old roman.

But what is WalletSaver?

“a free app for the comparison of tariff plans. Analyzing the real consumption of the user, calls, sms, internet, we can suggest what are the most convenient rates and what are the telephone operators with the best coverage in the places where the user uses the phone … “

By extrapolating user data we have a detailed analysis of its needs, the saving is guaranteed and sewing ad hoc directly to your smartphone.

The App WalletSaver examines the length of calls, the telephone operator which is called, sent messages and consumption of internet divided between 3g / 4g and wifi. The App is currently available for download and its use is very easy and intuitive, in a few minutes you can have the complete mapping of your mobile phone.

“I dreamed of investment banks and I knew nothing of startups. But I find myself startupper, startupparo or as I call the category of “rational dreamers”

From the first steps to today, here is a rewind of WalletSaver’s activites:

– August 2011, China, experience from which rises the need for clarity on foreign rates and then the idea of WalletSaver

  • December 2012, Luigi Capello, Luiss Enlabs’ founder, likes the idea and support it
  • February 2013 ilab, Luiss’ accellerator becamo the first place on which the idea is put on a desk
  • June 2013 Innovaction Lab, the idea takes form as a startup
  • September 2013 the first investment comes from Spinoff Universitario Filas
  • October 2013, the new team is getting created
  • March 2014, Starting developing on Luiss Enlabs’ tables, where we shaked each other hand for the first time
  • September 2014 Lisbon Challenge
  • October 2014, Unicredit Fintech Accelerator
  • 23th November 2014, the definitive App is launched on Android trough Thunderclap

“The part which surprised me the most was the visit of Vodafone Portugal’s President, who came in the accelerato, sit with us, and has dedicated to us 50 minutes of his time with a disarming easiness.”

Here’s what Giacomo said after asking him if he had found any difference in being a startupper in Italy and so in another country. Doing start up in Italy is definitely different than the rest of Europe as it is for each country, but the passion, determination and the ecosystem in which you operate are essential wherever you are. “… The main problem is the uncertainty of a startup, especially in the early stages. No word yet on how to monetize well, if you ever find the financial means to continue, every day could appear a competitor in the world doing the same thing you do, just in a more effective way, people on the team could leave for a “safe” job, a new law may make not pursuant the product that you have worked for a long time… “

WalletSaver was born as a mobile application for the comparison of telephone charges, however, is under study the first comparison system in the world that bases its analysis of user’s use directly to the source. “Right now we have begun to study the electricity sector and we are working on hardware that extrapolates consumption data directly from the source, being able to suggest the best energy rates without requiring any effort to the user. Giacomo continues, “our goal is to make WalletSaver a company that offers innovative solutions and professional, both software and hardware, which can accompany you through the daily choices of purchase”

The team is composed by bright young people which are making this a competitive and innovative entrepreneurial reality, able to compete without a doubt at the European level. “… The team is the WalletSaver asset I’m proud the most. When we started in March 2014 were 3, now we are a team of seven people, four nationalities and a great desire to split. The business side of the team consists of Jacopo, co-founder and CMO with a degree in Management of Innovation and a passion for social media and Ricardo Ribeiro, the last purchase of the WalletSaver family. Ricardo has been a key element in the launch of one of the most successful startups in Portugal, called UniPlaces. The technical team is instead represented by Antonio, co-founder & CTO with a PhD in Computer Science and passion for coaching. For Android we have Joao, who has also a PhD in computer science with an excellent knowledge of Android and Marcus, telecommunications engineering with many years of experience developing iOS. Last but not least, Mohamed, who is only 18, who designs and firm printed circuit boards.”

I leave you with the last words of Giacomo regarding every day decisions, that sooner or later we have to take.

“When I decided to move from finance to start-ups, there were two main reasons that pushed me to do it without second thoughts:

  • The Learning:

“I think that every boy should have the chance to work on his own idea… Doing a startup is a bit like killing a pig: you do not throw out anything! You put into practice the knowledge you had acquired at the university, you will acquire new, you’ve created your network of smart people, you related with people who probably you would have never met, but mostly you put yourself in game. Only then you can determine the value of yourself and then to deal with the life with the right awareness “

  • The Regret: if not now, when?

“I realized that after I graduated, it was the right time to try it. It was the right time to make a risky investment, otherwise I would have had to wait several years before I can try. I imagined the classic question that I would have asked to myself the morning on the metro going to the office where I worked: I wonder what would happen if ..? I wonder how it would work in my company? at that point I realized that I couldn’t not try it!”
