Oceangaze: Prendete l’oceano.

Oceangaze: it feels like the ocean. A lounger, the beach in a late summer sunset, a soft breeze and the waves crashing on the rocks. This is Oceangaze.

Matthew HPL Ford’s project (aka Mattia Audi) includes all these elements and turns them into music. The Italian-Canadian boy is keen on shoegaze, My Bloody Valentine’s dream pop and Slowdive, but also on more known band as the Cure and the Smiths, and Brian Eno’s ambient music. He has recently embraced new electronic genres born in the web, as chillwave or vaporwave music. Mixing the contributions drawn from these genres and adding the recordings of sea waves, he has created what he calls the “Oceangaze”, a real dream experience.

Especially his self-produced EP Let The Oceans Come, under the pseudonym Neutral.Solitude, fully exemplifies the concept of Oceangaze. Mellow keyboards are accompanied by occasional and ethereal touches of guitar. All is associated to simple and minimal beats and, obviously, to the ocean waves, which produce a literally dreamy and melancholy atmosphere.

Matthew’s various projects, which range in other genres too, have not yet achieved great attention from the web. However, thanks to the quality and originality of his work, he has the chance to really go far.
